Make a meal out of climate change

Food for Trees is a direct and practical response to climate change by the restaurant/café and food and wine industry.

By planting trees in and around Melbourne, Food for Trees members are directly reducing the damage done by carbon emissions and improving the environmental health of greater Melbourne.

Food for Trees members are also giving consumers the opportunity to enjoy their wining, dining, eating and drinking in an environmentally responsible way.

Guaranteed to make a difference

Trees planted by Food for Trees members are overseen and guaranteed by the Port Phillip and Westernport Catchment Management Authority.

The plantings are permanent, and located to provide the maximum environmental and community benefits by:

  • Improving air quality
  • Cleaning waterways
  • Capturing carbon emissions
  • Ensuring the quality of local agricultural produce
  • Providing habitats for native birds and animals
  • Improving landscapes
  • Creating healthier environments for people to live in
  • Demonstrating ethical business practice

Why plant trees?

Our goal: a million trees over 10 years

Trees absorb and store the harmful carbon emissions that are causing our climate to change.

Trees are also crucial to cleaning our waterways, providing habitats for native species, and providing a clean environment for our agricultural production and for us all to live in.

The Australian Conservation Foundation recommends tree-planting schemes as a practical way for us to reduce our carbon footprints on the environment - but only where the tree plantings are guaranteed to be permanent and where the plantings will improve local biodiversity and waterways.
